Papius Tumusingize is a Ugandan holding a master’s degree in Agriculture from Jeonbuk National University, South Korea and a BSc. Agriculture from Makerere University. He has training in vegetable production from Wageningen University, Netherlands and Global Academy and is a recognized GAP standard farm assurer to support other certification bodies in Uganda. His specialization over the past 8 years has tended towards developing a dynamic approach to competitive horticulture sector that is well suited to today’s turbulent competitive environment. He has highly developed skills in greenhouse micro-climate control, plant nutrient formulation, greenhouse management, commercial hydroponics systems set up and management, integrated crop management (ICM), Integrated pest management (IPM), Urban and precision farming. He has vast experience in international trade in line with fresh fruits and vegetables and setup of product handling facilities, and agribusiness incubation focusing on youths and women gained with CURAD, Africa’s leading agribusiness incubator. Mr. Tumusingize has supervised the establishment of the first commercial hydroponics system in Uganda at Makerere University Agricultural Research Institute a project supported by KOICA and implemented under Shinhan A-Tech, spearheaded the establishment a model Agri-park facility to handle fresh product for international market at CURAD agribusiness center in Kampala industrial park, Namanve a project supported by Agriculture Business Initiative(aBI) and Uganda Investments Authority. With his experience, he has been appointed to spearhead the certification process of silicon-based fertilizer (Silgrow) as a country Agronomist by Hunter global Group, a global company based in USA and working closely with MAAIF-NPPO to ensure quality. Papius brings on board a tremendous skillset and service to build strong horticulture value chains, create market linkages and improve quality management systems development assurance.
